Hey all, browsing the net and came across this- now it may be old news, or maybe it is not, not sure. Apparently there is a major offshore wind farm going to be built in Lake Ontario SW off Wolfe Island. About a 130 turbines http://windstreamenergy.ca/ . This will be located or surrounding Pigeon island from the looks of and the shoals in the area. Not sure what that means for fishing in the area among other things. Thoughts?

Yikes. Pretty soon the entire Eastern basin will be turbines. Between that, Wolfe island, Amherst project and the prince Edward project. All this energy being created yet we need to build a new plant in Bath.

I can't see how building in that area won't harm or destroy walleye fishing in the area. That's a major migratory route for Lake Ontario walleye and the Bay of Quinte fall fishery.

I would love to see the full area involved as I would assume it will be fenced with buoys.

That project was squashed long ago. Carbon foot print to build the project would be huge and offset the benefits.

Doesn't say it's squashed? Says they won the legal battle, unless I read it wrong

You are absolutely right....not squashed at all. Alive and well.

I wonder if they had their permits before we decided to give them 25 million.

They want to put over a hundred of them at Main Duck right in front of the lighthouse and that would need a federal permit that they shouldn't be able to get.

The new plant at Bath is back up the turbines.

We keep building these things because someone is getting paid off....the Lennox plant hardly runs because we have to much power and we sell it cheaper to the US. Compare wages of the exec,s between Hydro Ont and Hydro BC.

I can't belive they would be allowed to build these offshore in lake ontario. It's going to have a negative effect on the walleye and bass population during construction and the noise and movement during operation. Complete travesty against nature for a so called "green" energy source, unbelievable if this is allowed to be built. So many better and less harmful locations let alone better technology is available to generate power. This needs to stopped before they get too far, write your MPP.

Well I live on Wolfe Island where we have fought with the wind people for a long time and that project was brought up in February and we were told by the legal team that that project has been abandoned.

Check out the Lake Ontario Water Keeper sight. Environmental lawyer Mark Mattson lead the fight. Also read the Great Lakes protection act. Might shed some light for you guys on the subject. You guys are reading old news.

Wish I could say it was old news, but sadly, it's alive and well.

Wish I had nothing to worry about but stuff that's not worth worrying about. Poor people who aren't informed.
