Ya Dan...I got away from trolling harness/bouncer in open water about 5 years ago when I found out about weed walleyes. I've always used bucktail jigs in the weeds with pretty good success. I usually fish Kawartha Lakes and they are typically shallow weedy lakes. Last weekend I tried trolling with a worm harness and a bullet weight on Rice Lake for the first time. It took me a few hours to get bit, but when we found a spot we ended up getting 8 fish in about 1.5 hours. All fish were caught in 6-8 FOW with the weeds almost to the top of the water, maybe 1-2 feet below the surface. We were using a 1/4 ounce bullet weight and trolling at 1.6-1.8 I thought I was going too fast, but we had to speed up to keep the lure higher in the water column. Willow leaf and Colorado blades produced about the same. I'm thinkin with the combination of a higher speed and the lure rippin through the weeds, it's a total reaction strike.

I would draw your attention to:

" Bullet sinker spinner rigs are the primary weapon of choice for many of the top walleye anglers in the north country. They allow you to cover water extremely quickly, and they get bit. Use heavier and lighter bullet sinkers based on where you want the rig to be running in the water column in relation to the weeds."

That's great news for the users of the Uzick Spinner and Ripple Worm - cheap plug!!!!
