I have just picked up a wide format printer, software etc. with the intention of producing high quality, full scale "trophy photos" of game fish. The plan is to aquire some good generic fish pictures, photoshop them
and print life size images ( the printer will do 13 x 50 inches max---sorry trophy muskie fishers), all as a way to give anglers something to hang on the wall in this catch and release day and age.
If anyone has any comments, ideas or suggestions they would be most welcome.

Hi wulffy

Is this done anywhere? I cannot say that I have heard of it, but it does sound interesting.

My own favourite brook trout photo was taken far away from Quinte, but is really a colourful treat to see. Golden trout on the other hand....they always seem tough to really capture their true beauty (AB.)

I saw one photo of a 217 pd. sturgeon taken near Adoplustown in the 1950's (commercial net) that would look very nice touched up and enlarged.

An interesting sounding idea.
Regards

Don Stokes

May have some business for you already! I just caught my first Brownie on Tuesday, depending on how the photo turns out, may want to get a large version...

I'll let you know :!:

They would have to be very high quality photos with a wide lense to prevent croping of the photo. I would try printing some 32" fish out to see if you can control the pixelation of 72 and 133 lpi images. This is a great Idea you may also want to check into papers that are acid free to prevent fading and turning yellow.

good luck.

So far I have had the most success with pictures of fish mounts as they are perfectly positioned, glisten nicely and have good colour. Images on the net, if they are fine art prints, have the copyright thing going on and are usually low quality. Actual photos of someone holding a fish are difficult to use as the fish itself is all you want and it is usually being suspended or held in some unnatural manner. What I need is a clear
photo of a nicely done mount of each species (I have a smallmouth
right now and that,s it) preferable taken in natural light without a flash.
Most digital cameras allow you to choose a higher image quality such as
Fine JPEG or RAW. These are good.
Another interesting factor will be fish colouration. As it varies from lake to lake, I,ll have to make adjustments. Thank you guys for your comments.

wulf,

What about a vertical shot ?? If I was holding a fish vertically and it was a tight shot wouldn't that work. The other thing that might work is cropping ??
