Farewell to the 2017 fishing season! It was an awesome year out on the water.

Accompanied by my lady, I took my final trip to the Bay of Quinte last Saturday (Dec 9) for 2017. The winds were low and the temperature was above freezing. It was pretty nice out considering it was the second weekend in December. There was a few flurries now and again throughout the day but certainly quite comfortable.

We launched the boat about 8 am in Picton and drove out past the ferry. We fished from the lighthouse to about 2 kilometers east of the Bat Cave. I just circled around that general area. The city of boats that occupied that patch of water the previous weekend were gone and there really was only a handful of us out there trolling around.

The rods didn't move for the first few hours other than the odd lure change. About 12:30 pm we were just east of the Bat Cave on the North side in 100 feet of water and the outside planer board trips. After a short tug of war my Lady lands a 3 pound 10 ounce Walleye caught on a Bleeding Tiger Tail Dancer 11 with 150 feet of line out and a 1 1/2 ounce snap weight placed 50 feet ahead of the lure.

About an hour later we find ourselves in about the same spot. Just east of the Bat Cave but we are now in 110 Feet of water on the north side and the inside planer board with 5 colours of lead core fires. This fish has some weight to it and the tug of war is on. I'm sure you all know the disappointment felt when you think you are hauling in a big walleye only to discover a big Sheeps Head progressing towards net a few minutes later. This one weighed in at 10 pounds and was caught on a Fire Tiger Husky Jerk.

We trolled around for another hour with no luck and at 2:30 pm we pulled the lines and headed back to Picton. We buttoned up the boat and headed out of town.

I wasn't watching my speed as we were coming into Bloomfield and I therefore purchased a ticket to the policeman's ball! Arrrg! The fella was pretty good about it and dropped it down significantly so it was $40 and no points. Serves me right for not paying attention. No harm, no foul!

A couple hours later I was at the cottage with my feet up in front of the roaring fire. I tucked my boat away into my buddy's barn for the winter on Sunday and now I can get to all the jobs I was suppose to be doing over the last 5 weekends! lol

Have a great winter everyone!

Cheers, Kevin

Great report, you got a chuckle.out of me with the police ball thing. Hahahaha. Does anyone else throw moth balls or dryer sheets in their boat for the winter to keep the rodents away?

I do both. I leave all compartments wide open and empty them and then put the dryer sheets and moth balls in every corner.

The only time I've ever had a problem with mice is when I stored the boat in the garage. The last 7-8 years I've stored it outside and never had any mice problems. No moth balls or dryer sheets.
