No report here or anything but just wanted to share some info on an experience I had this week.
I just got back from 3 days of fishing on a lake up north. I had received some info on ice/snow conditions before I got there and the report was bang on. 6 inches of ice and about 8 inches of snow in the area I was going. Overnight temps for the 3 upcoming nights were -29 -32 and -26 with daytime highs from -15 to -17 Skies were clear and winds were low and really not that much snow. Should be making ice right?? The first day I got there, I spudded my way out and checked 3 different spots along the way kinda zig zagging around checking different depths. I found 4 inches 6 inches and 8 inches in the 3 different spots. By day 3 I was expecting there to be at least a couple of inches off ice growth, but nothing changed. Same thickness in all 3 spots. What's up with that
I've only been ice fishing for about 6 years, so I'm no seasoned veteran or anything but also not new. I found this to be quite strange though.
Anyhow, just a heads up to guys that are heading out this weekend, I wouldn't assume with the cold temps lately that spots that had 3 inches last weekend should now be 6 and spots that were 5 should be 8. I haven't been out to Quinte yet this winter, but it sounds like there is lot more snow there than where I was.
Good Luck and keep the reports coming!!
