Anyone ever try to drill the side of a Go Pro Case to allow leaving a USB cable attached and can you record with the cable attached?

If you don't have the waterproof case on the cable fits in no problem. Also just tried it plugged in and it records. That's why if you carry a spare battery pack, you can get a lot of recording time

Mine must be an older model probably one of the first ones, the USB cord plugs into the side. The case looks very hard and I'm afraid it my shatter if I drill it. What model is yours I may try to find one. Or if I can find a spare case I will risk drilling or burning.

Back before my Hero 3 met the drink, I drilled holes in the side for a USB cable and audio

I drilled a hole in mine and then used a dremel tool to finish it. works great. Allows me to hook it up to my noco battery pack and record for hours if need be.
