I was invited by EvesR to go for a laker fish and I've seen his YouTube videos so I was pretty excited to give lakers through the ice a try. I wasnt disappointed. It didn't start out too well as we had 2 power augers with us and both crapped out and lucky I had my hand auger in my vehicle.
With holes drilled and some lure suggestions and a few words of wisdom from Rob I settled in to fish. Within a short time I had a mark and it followed my lure up and bit. I got a few turns on him but then it came unbuttoned. Settled back in and finally iced a 4-5lb laker. A while later hooked up again and landed a fish estimated at 10 lbs. Over the course of the morning went 3 for 5 with the biggest a 13.00 weighed on the scales. Down side was I dropped my phone down the hole and wasnt quick enough to save it. When at the mall shopping a new phone the sales person said I was the third this winter who had dropped their phone through the ice.lol I'm hooked on the lakers, the fight and runs are awesome!!! Also met board members Hans, Steve and a few others and talked fish. I will definitely be back

wtg Dan, worked overtime last night and could not drag my ass out onto the ice today. I will however be heading east of Quinte tomorrow to do some laker fishing, hope my trip resembles yours without the auger and phone parts.

Dan

EvesR is the lake trout man. He sure knows how to get em.

Nice fish - they sure pull hard for a fish not known by many as a fighting machine.

Did not make it out east of Quinte like I was hoping, so I hit Potters on Sunday afternoon for 1.5 hours. 13 inches if ice marked 4 fish cold have been anything.
Had to try out the new drill, bought a Dewalt 20 volt Brushless hammer drill teamed it up with my 8" Finnbore . 13"s of good ice 5 holes average time 5- 6 seconds and lots of power per hole.

Nothing wrong with the camera, he’s fishing by open water and that is the pod of whales behind him

Hi Dan,

Beautiful fish and great report as always. As a relatively new member I try to follow the lead from those like yourself who provide so much great information to the board in a friendly and balanced manner. Keep up the great example for others.

With regards to the lost phone, if it is any comfort I have lost 2 so far down the hole, I now always put it in a safe place far away from the holes. :D
