I know this should be in the hunting forum, but there is a lot less traffic there.

When you are renewing your PAL licence is the only option online? Or can you go to one of the government centers to renew?

Also, can you just snap a picture with your phone and attach it as a jpeg as long as it meets the requirements?

You can renew your PAL as long as it's not expired online or by mail. The picture has to meet the criteria on the RCMP web site. Basically a passport picture. The RCMP website gives you the specific data format information.

I couldn't figure out how to make a passport picture on my camera so I had a picture taken at Costco.

Service Canada can give you the form but will be of no assistance filling it out. I went to Service Canada and they gave me the wrong form. I friend of mine when down to get his and again was given the wrong form.

If your PAL has not expired you can use form RCMP GRC 5614e (2015-08-20). You can down load this form from the RCMP web site.

If you PAL has expired your have to apply from scratch using form RCMP GRC 5592e (2016-01-29).

To renew online your have to create a Government of Canada (GCKey) account. That's a one time registration and you use it for CPP, Enployment Insurance and a few other Government things.

The fee is $60.00. I believe, to renew online you have to be hooked up to E-banking through your GCKey account to pay the fee.

Personally, I think it's easier to mail it. Take 5 minutes to fill out the form and you don't need a guarantor.

I mailed mine and had it back within 30 days. Seems to me they mailed me a notice within a couple of weeks that they had received my application and the licence came a couple of weeks later.

If you have any questions there's an 800 number on the form. Very helpful people.

I hope I got this right. If not, you'll be the first to know. LOL

Good luck.

you can phone rcmp @ 1800-731-4000 and they will mail you the application required, I received mine in 5 days. takes 10 minutes to fill out the forms and I got my picture done at staples for $14.00. takes 4-6 weeks return. hope this is helpful.

Online is WAY the easiest and fastest. Phone pic is fine.
