Laker John and I hit the road on Thursday to have a look around to see the launch ramps and their state.

First was Finkle's, then the Ferry and finally Wellington, Two are No-go's and the third is good to go, depending on the ice on the big lake.

Have a look

and then the confusion sets in - I would hazard a guess they want the ten bucks!

Stay Tuned

Did you see if the Wellington channel was open to the lake?

Quite a difference in water level vs last year. Good to not have flooding but it’s already too low based on the ferry levels.

Here's the channel to the Big Lake

It's wide open - lots of frazzle ice outside though.

Took a drive to Athol Bay and it was clear. But be careful, a strong south wind will blow the ice back in. Keep meaning to take a picture of that bloody sign and post to FB. Friends with most of County councilors.

Thanks for the update, is it safe to venture out. I'm assuming there's enough floating ice, wondering if it's possible to troll to athol bay or make a safe run to Bonet.

I looked at the sattallite image and got excited. I called home hardware in Wellington to ask them how the water is and the guy tells me ice to the horizon. Called there past 3 years and always got good info, must of been having a bad day or he's blind.

Thanks again, appreciate the post

It's crazy how fast it can go. Maybe I'll buy the home hardware guy a beer. Heading up to fish Sunday and Monday out of wellington, winds look good.

I went out Sunday with no luck. Little windy for a long run but had some driving practice dodging ice floats with planner boards.
Where would I get the season pass for that launch?
