Well you are wasting a lot of money, you really only need 300 feet of line on your reel. I fill mine up the backwards way and write down the amount of backing (my reels are all the same) then I know the formula for the other reels. I do splice my braid once it gets down a bit but have never had a knot fail.

True, 900ft might be a bit of an overkill, might split 2 spools between 4 reels, I'm starting to second guess my decision to go with 10lb test too? oh well, see how it goes. This is my 4th season of trolling with planer board, I haven't just quite dialed in what works best for me yet. It'll come.

So...if you haven't put the line on yet I recommend that you take it back and get either 30lb Power Pro or Suffix 832 in 30lb test. 30lb is close to the 10lb equivalent line diameter to 10lb mono used in the Precision Trolling App which is a must have for hard core trollers. If you don't have the app yet you should soon because when you do get it (and you will) you will kick yourself for not getting it sooner. As I mentioned earlier I put 300 feet on my reels and splice 50 or 100 feet when it gets worn, As long as the reel is full. I have splices in all my lines and have never had one break and do catch some big Walleye (not over 30lb though) Another advantage is that it is a little bigger diameter than the 10lb braid so it won't slip on your board releases. hope this helps

Hey Jim, I have had the app for a couple years now and would not go trolling without it, the app is 99.9% of the reason I went with 10lb fireline, Thanks though this does help, I think I will swap out for 20lb possibly even 30lb fireline.

I think the app has more lures rated for the 10lb mono than the Fireline, go with the 30 as its the same diameter as the 10lb and your app data should be closer
