There is a gill net in the Trent River behind the Freshco grocery store, was trying my boat out and was surprised to see it. Are there others like that in the Bay? Will it be gone by opening day? New to the Bay so thanks for the help. You can see it when you drive over the bridge.

There are nets all over the Bay. Whole bunch down Long and Adolphus Reach. There's also nets in the river to maximize catching fish.

I looked at the jugs in the Reach and there weren't any identifying marks. Maybe not required.

I'm guessing the nets will stay as long as fish are being caught.

If they are commercial nets, at least one of the floats should have an identifying name or number on them. If you are concerned (the one behind the frescho raises questions) check with the MNR folks at the glenora fisheries station. They could likely tell you where, or at least who would have a commercial net in the area. There may be guidelines to netting off the access to the river though?

Gentlemen those jugs are not marking gill nets or even hoop nets. Not trap nets either.
They are marking Ministry hook lines. Glenora is doing a research project in the Trent on sturgeon.
They should be removed by Friday.

Al

P.S. as far as I know there are no permits given to commercial fishermen for gill nets in the upper Bay of Quinte.
Trap and hoop nets - yes
