Hi,

Can anyone give me advice on a guide book of some sort for the back lakes north of Kingston? I'm looking for pretty basic info, like which lakes are good for walleye, bass, crappie, etc.

Thanks!

Backroads mapbooks were created by the Mussio brothers many years ago. Many versions, and areas, are available, from cottage country formats, to more remote backlake versions, and combos of both. They are available at many retail stores , some public libraries and online. Their website can be found, by searching backroads mapbooks. As a Brook Trout fanatic, I prefer the ice fishing edition I recently acquired at a yard sale.(ALSO A MUSSIO PRODUCT)…..
The MNR also has a fairly comprehensive website, called Fish On Line.....if you zero in and click on the lakes your interested in, it will give you info on that lake , or punch in Kingston, click walleye, and the KM radius you wish to search, and it will tell you how many walleye lakes are within say 50 kms of Kingston, and show you where the lakes are and give you other info. Very good tool, just takes a little practice to use it............….the benefit of the MNR site is that its free to use, vs buying one of the mapbooks. I'm sure there are other good options, but these are the two that I use. Good luck ,hope this helps

Another on-line source of info is Anglers Atlas https://www.anglersatlas.com/
I purchased a Backroads mapbook when I moved to Kingston in 1999 and found it very valuable and still maintain a copy in my truck.

Awesome, thanks guys. My wife recently decided she likes the idea of buying a house on either Dog, Collins or Loughborough :D. Any thoughts on these three lakes specifically?

Dog is stocked with Spake and has good Bass, pike and crappy fishing. It is part of a three lake chain (Dog, Cranberry, Whitefish) with water access to the Town of Seeleys Bay. It is part of the Rideau Canal system with locks at Whitefish (Jones Falls) and Cranberry (Brewers Mills) and as such has unlimited boating potential. Slam dunk in my opinion.
Collins is a smaller lake. Good Bass, pike, muskie and crappy. Has a deep and a shallow end. Great location for anyone working in Ktown. Landlocked and popular.
Loughborough is the land of the rich and famous. Two lakes in one with a deep stocked Lake trout end (good smally fishing) and a shallow bass, pike & crappy end. Careful driving in the shallow end...
It is my least favorite of the three. The trout are small and taste like shite, it's landlocked, extremely popular and land values are high. It's bigger than Collins though.
Call me up when you get a place on Dog ;)
