Went out sat (Jan 26) for my second trip to the bay this year.
After a late start, due to backtracking for my buddies fishing licence, we were faced with deciding where to go.
On my previous trip I'd fished the south end of the reach and caught a couple small pickerel and some perch.
This time we were trying to decide between Huffs, Big Bay or Thompson's. While driving to Huffs I decided last minute to try the hydro lines. I hadn't fished this spot in 5 or six years . I forgot how hard the walk in was.....
After a long walk and the steep drop to the ice we were excited to finally drill some holes at around 9:30.
We stayed till dark.
Buttkiss.
Saw a few fish on the finder but couldn't seal the deal. Buddies camera confirmed a mix of walleye and whitefish. They would come in quick but not touch the bait.
I tried about 15 different lures. Nothing.
We then faced not only the shame but the long walk out....
Well, that sucked.

Bob

Don’t feel bad, we got the skunk also. We were fishing just south of the cables. I also saw those huge schools of what I thought were sheepshead on my camera. Are they in fact white fish? Ya they ignored us too.

That sucks. Quinte has sent us all home with our tail between our legs. That hill I refer to as heart attack hill. Thanks for the report and better luck next trip

I've got a friend coming from Jersey this weekend. Hoping for better luck. Will definitely pick a shorter walk...

Thank God it wasn't just me. I went out to Huffs myself for a half day Saturday (12-7pm). It was my first time ice fishing, and had the exact same thing. Marked a few fish checking out my lure and bait, but no strikes.

People rarely post their unsuccessful trips. I think it happens more than anyone would admit...
On this day I had probably 20 + good size marks on my screen. The majority even followed my lure for a bit. Just wouldn't bite.
Super frustrating....
