Spent a few hours out in hay bay. In the deep hole by Ram Is. the screen on the finder lite up with really big hooks. Too big for eyes so I guessed they were a school of sheepheads. The bass didnt seem to be cooperating so a switch in baits to ice fishing spoons seemed like a sure bet to get the drums beating. And it was. In a few hours we landed about 15 fish with a few just over 10 lbs and most in the 5-9lb range. They loved the champ and buckshot and when they hit its like you're snagged on bottom. Fun fishing on 6lb test line. if you get on a school drop your spoon all the way to the bottom and just keep giving it a good 3 ft rip and then let your spoon fall freely back down. Soon as it hits bottom rip it again. Just a fun way to catch whats biting

Nice. We ended up going out by the narrows today and working bottom bouncers with spinners and gulp leeches and crankbaits, but did not get much. A couple of bites here and there but nothing significant. What colour spoons were they hitting on?

I love exercising the sheepies, if you are not looking for a feed I don't think there is a fish in the bay that bites as consistent and gives a better fight, best part is a lot of the time there are some bigger walleye mixed in, yesterday hit a spot saw the hooks in short order had 3 Drum over 10 lbs and a 22" walleye, in 12 FOW bottom bouncing spinner rigs.
Saved a slow day for my buddy from BC.

I agree BHWD, they are always willing to bite.
Vladd, they were biting silver, but anything shiny and jigged hard will work

Nice, they always seem to put up a great fight! The times I have caught them were accidental, on a spinner with a worm but I may have to give fishing them a go one of these days. Ever tried eating them?

I've also had great sheepie success on jigging raps - They love those things. Also seen walleye mixed in the school.
