Fished Adolphus Reach today. Several boats out. Marked lots of schools 40 ft and lower.

Just pulled out sheepshead, so I'm guessing that's what the schools are.

Some of the sheepshead are pretty big.

Water Temp, 52degrees.

Met at the ramp by a Commercial Fisherman. Ragged on me for a while about all the fall walleye the catch and release fishermen are killing.

A wasted argument on me(can't catch fish).

If you run into him, yes he is a Commercial Fisherman. The complaint is barotrauma.

lol very funny.

anyone ever use the rocklees? it's basically a weighted device you lip a fish with, send down, and release with a quick jerk when the fish is back at bottom.

I was reading a bit about "Fizzing".

A couple of science based articles discourage it as doing more harm than good.

This was on the MNR site.

Deepwater fishing
quickly release fish caught in deep water — 8 metres (30 feet) or more
avoid fishing for spiny-rayed species like bass and walleye in deep water if you intend to release them
don’t put fish caught in deep water in a livewell — they may not be able to equalize quickly

Here's a couple is sites that have some science attached,

Should have asked him how many 10lb plus walleye his nets have killed that us anglers would have released when fishing shallow, to spawn and continue the fishery. Or how many other unwanted species he’s killed like the Lake Erie commercial guys that throw rainbows etc overboard dead cuz they can’t bring it to market.

So you were fishing below 30 fow? Why?
We have a fantastic reassures and we work well to preserve it together Spearing in the river or fishing below 30 its just wrong!

Here is a good article on barotrauma and walleye, a bit technical but the abstract is readable. Bottom line is try not to fish walleye below 30 ft.
However, if you fish between 9 am. and 4 pm. during Nov/Dec while targeting big girls (why else would you be freezing your butt off in a tin can on a day like today), it is hard not to fish deep. Especially if using the new deep divers that go down 30 to 40 ft along with lines like suffix leadcore.

Deepwater release seems to hold promise. I see that some charter captains are promoting it. It is called a Seaqualizer...not sure exactly how much it costs, I have seen between $75-$125 online. More info on Barotrauma and release methods in the link below.

Good Luck to all this weekend.
