I drove out to Hay bay this afternoon (Thursday) and parked at the Church ramp. There was some thin slushy soft ice right at the shore where the spud went though easily. I reached and took a few swipes at what looked to be the "main body" of ice. The spud went through in a couple of swipes and the ice seemed to be less than 2.5 inches. I never left shore. All of Hay Bay was white with now with nobody and no tracks to be seen. Numerous wet patches were visible. No fishing for me today, so I drove up to Deseronto just to have a look. Lots of wet black ice in the Napanee River and wet ice at Deseronto. All creeks that I crossed were high with a strong current. No signs of anyone venturing out anywhere. Thin ice with a fair bit of snow on to obscure the nasty bits: a very bad combination. I won't be trying the east end of the bay until after a major cold snap.
