Hummmm and I get asked why I am a bit reluctant to get out on the ice this year

This happened not far from me. Unfortunately it would have occurred even if the ice was two feet thick. The outlet of Belmont lake where Crowe river exits is never safe. Even a simple peek at a map would have prevented this. Sad stuff.

Yes that is 100% correct..
That is the most dangerous spot on that lake. It barely gets 2" in -20 weather right in that small bay...
It hits close to home as my brother drowned earlier this year. My thoughts go out to his family.
