Tipups on Quinte

Hey there,

I've fished Quinte in years passed, and noticed that nobody seems to use tipups. On other bodies of water people seem to always have a couple set lines out for walleye. Just curious if anyone on here uses tipups in addition to the usual jigging spoons with any regularity/success. I'm booked at Sunset Farms for the 26th (weather gods willing) so any insight would be appreciated!

IMO I would never use set lines on quinte I have tried over and over again even when I was catching them one after another and never got a single hit on the set lines. Waste of time

There’s years where I’ve had success with a still line and jig another. But not always. Used to be before the flasher days. Set a line and if you seen the minnow starting to play around hard used to at least tell you there was a predator fish around.

I always use tip ups. Preferably for pike.
I forgot one the other night out on the bay.
Hope someone gets some good use out of the ol' Frabill. LoL
It wasnt there when i went back the next morning. Oops.

Watch any TV show or YouTube video and all the "Pros" will say that a deadstick setup very close to your jigging hole will always produce fish. Not sure why guys don't use them on Quinte, or why they don't work. I usually fish inside a hut and I always set up a deadstick somewhere in the hut. Never had any real success with walleye, but pike and perch seem to like it.

There is places where the rules are different.. various states your allowed 5. But it's only 2 here.. it will produce, but no alternative to jigging

Thanks for the replies! In that case, maybe I will leave the Frabill's at home. Seems like the chances of running into a pike in that part of the bay are relatively slim while jigging for walleye/perch. I always figured nobody used them on the bay because of the strong current, but I guess the walters just ain't interested!

I've used a set line for years and I think the only thing I ever caught was a mud puppy.

i always use one when i can,
The reason for that is:
I use the dinner plate style, the first time i caught a 10lb pike on a tipup the thing was litterally bouncing off the ground from the line being pulled out of it so fast,
It was a sight to see forsure, let alone playing tug of war with dinner on the other line. I remember the burn on my hands from the black tipup line i was using...
So i guess i use them chasing that thrill.
