Just wanted to tell my story about our fishing trip today. So myself and comit which is also a member, went to try some perch fishing. So we start by drilling a couple of holes and drop our camera to find our spot, after drilling a few we decided on our spots. I drilled 2 holes and set hut up and then to went to drill 2 holes for comit, no problem with the first hole and the second one drilled through but as I was pulling out the auger blade the pin breaks and auger goes down the hole. Not a good start to the fishing day. So we ponder many ideas on how to get the auger from trying to hook it with the gaff and maybe mark the spot on our phone and come back in the spring. At this point im losing my mind and comit suggests Canadian tire for magnets, so I call and they have nothing, the guy there says try bensons and no luck there. Comit says go to princess auto they will have a magnet, so I call princess auto and buddy there says they have one that can lift 225lbs, buddy says but its pricing 49.99. so 50bucks or possible 300bucks hmmm. So I pack everything up, load it on my smitty sled and start walking back to truck, and my bad luck continues smitty sled breaks in half. So I get to princess auto find the magnet and almost an hour later. We tie this magnet to a rope and drop it down and while we are doing this we see all on camera, first try it hooks up and start lifting then my hope was shot it fell back down. If anyone knows comit he doesn't give up easy, so try it again and finally we get it to the hole but not all the way. The ice was 12inches so I was elbow deep in the water hanging on to this auger while we tried to move the rope out of the way. Im sure you can see where this is going after some time we finally got it out of the hole. Thanks to my buddy comit and a shout out to the guys at princess auto.
There is a lesson here always check the pin that connects the two parts. Sorry for it being so long but I had to say im pretty happy after how this day was starting out. :P

Omigawd, our Forum has become 'way better entertainment than ANYTHING on TV these days!!

Regardless of costs (don't even START thinking about those!), you can't help but laugh out loud as our Lead Actor progresses from Snafu to Snafu, thinking: "Whut else could go wrong?" And it does, and does... unbelievable!

Bud, you've done The Entire Board a great Service recounting this Tale. Thank you so much!~

We're thinking You have a Free Pass for the rest of the Year, and deserve it.

Rgds, Wordpecker

I did the same thing a couple of weeks ago in the bay. First hole, what a bad start. Lucky another fisherman lent use his drill bit.
I'm glad to see all that effort paid off. For me I just replace it with a new one.

Crazy things happen - that's for sure - I fell through the ice many years ago and haven't gone ice fishing since then -

You made that story way shorter then it could have been lol. a couple points.... Auger came up bottom end up the first time. When it did come up upright the hole had shrunk and it would not come through it so I had to hold it for 20 minutes while you ran to the truck to get the powerhead. All this was in -20 on Friday morning. I should have recorded the whole ordeal! at least I got one shot of it on the bottom when a pike came in. Missed the pike but the video is a keeper lol https://youtu.be/lBUN16ZUQEQ

Quinte is having a blast messing with anglers this week!!!

I run a 6" auger, with a 7" disc on it so it can't fall down the hole..

Thanks for the read. Hearing about others crappy luck make me feel better about my trip last week!

Was talking to a sales rep at SAIL one day and he ice fishes a lot too. He said he bought a 400 pound lift magnet off Amazon for about $30 and when he rents a hut, he runs it through the holes first thing. He say it has paid for itself in gear and lure a few times over. I thought "What idiot loses things down the hole?" Well, my buddy and I stayed on Quinte for 3 days two weekends ago. I lost my gaff, he lost a new high-end fillet knife, and I also dropped a spoon. In addition to the cost, I hate littering the lake bottom with my crap. So I am grabbing a magnet too. Maybe we can get a bulk rate :)
