Fishing just by the red marker straight out from George st. The ice is 5" here and just saw an atv with 2 guys go through the ice. They went down about 200 yds east of red marker. Fortunately the hut just by them had rope and quickly pulled the 2 out. Be safe!!

Bad area at any time, current and strong winds recipe for disaster. Wouldn't surprise me we hear of similar incidents later today. Keep safe

Here's a few pictures showing how bad the ice is. There is a pressure crack that starts at the sewage plant and zig zags all the way across the bay towards cow island where it meets the main channel. The warm weather and high winds have caused the crack to push and pull leaving big gaping holes all along the crack. The guys who went through were moving too fast and when they saw the open water pocket it was too late to stop. He tried to turn to avoid it but ended up sliding into the hole sideways. If you look closely at his sled you can see the tow bar is still attached. The atv is completely under water but still attached to the sled. The guys who rescued them said they are at the hospital being treated for hypothermia. One had a floater suit and the other didn't. The one who didn't nearly never made it and was pretty well done had it not been for the guys nearby. Many lessons learned for them I'm sure. Had they taken their time driving in the dark and make sure they have good lighting they would of seen the pressure crack and avoided it. The crack itself is not very big and in some places it's gone completely leaving just big hole's of open water.

Like scout said might be more to come. Those gaping holes will skim over with ice tonight and the pressure crack is very small and doesn't look very intimidating, I can see the potential for another accident.

Keep the reports coming ! The girlfriend and I will be coming up next weekend I’m hoping there’s still safe ice. We are staying right off the reach by huffs. Thanks again

My insurance company does not cover my side by side if it goes through the ice. It stays in the garage in the winter and I travel with my brother on his ATV which has ice coverage.
