I have a fan cooled sled that I'm installing studs on. The studs are only going to stick up about an 1/8th over the lug. The lug is a .75ish. My question is do I need to install tunnel protection? Pretty sure I have the clearance and I don't trail ride, just out to fish on the bay and back.

Not necessary, tunnel protectors are meant for liquid cooled sleds. There designed to protect heat exchangers that are located on the tunnel.
