Boy its hard to believe Quinte just had its pickerel opener and nobody talking about it?? With the large pike and walleye caught in the derby I thought the board would be busting with fish stories and experiences.

These are great reports and informative. Its great to hear some were catching. 28' seems deep this time of year, but whatever works. Thanks for the posts.

have been doing really well around Belleville both jigging and trolling. Trolling seems to be better, spinners and slow 1.3

some of the fish are still spawning i think.

Thanks Biff. That's good to hear. Good luck Dan. Let us know how you do. The Ayr Sportsman will be down for our annual spring trip (33rd) to Sunset Farms the last weekend of May, and always enjoy reading the fishing reports prior.

I left Saturday for a three day casino - walleye wader fishing - shore fishing weekend in the 224000 km ford areostar I drive . Derby leaderboard was full of big fish, so theirs fish out there somewhere! Moira was not as rough as 2017 where I had to switch to plan C, D and E!....River was just outside my comfort zone for wading the rivers edges....., didnt want to tie off, or take other safety measures so I shore fished with the locals....good time....caught one small one there, only seen one other smaller one caught, and the odd story of success, plus an inadvertant five pound large mouth or bigger....still out there swimming, just a few nets from the boats which would occaisionally try the mouth.....although at times specially at night boat traffic was slim to none...George st had an open for business sign up, and the washrooms and weigh station were all up and runnin. Picked up at George st ramp in the mornings …. Hard to get the cranks down in the high current but was doable.....tried to post pics but failed, have photo bucket but Im rusty at that too! Did check various spots , and I did visually see fish, and some nice walleye on a stringer, While fishing there, I seen both male and female fish , and using just a jig and tail , caught one more and lost a big one that was foul hooked and wrapped in my line but it all came apart and off she swam...It was right near my wader boot, so Ill count it as catch and release.... although I initially thought theres not much around at least where I was, I now think that the spawn is perhaps?....about in the middle or at the start, at least in the rivers. Van worked good, ready for Brook trout and one more trip to Quinte in my small boat when it warms just a little bit and calms down just a little more!

I love bucktails too wayne...Can I ask if you were close to or on top of weeds?? Water may still be too cold for weed growth yet.

I saw lots of nets getting wet on Long Reach, except mine! Lol
And buck tails were the only thing I didn’t throw at them. Ugh!

weekend was slow but managed to get a 3 lb, 5.6 lb and a 11.59 lb walleye, and a 5 lb pike. Back at it yesterday, marking lots in the reach by Huffs but bite was tough for us. Got 3 right at dusk, all 14 inchers, on bottom bouncers and worm harnesses. Switched to night mode at 8:30 p.m. and got a 3 lb and twin 6.8s.
