Yesterday with the winds looking good on the big lake, the boys and I headed out to tackle some lakers. We started out in 35 FOW with two riggers and two dipseys with spoons. Five minutes after all was set, we had our first one on, and then second quickly turning the boat into a boat full of chaos with the boys on each rod. A few minutes later they had their first double header of lakers.

We targeted 35 to 70 FOW over the next couple of hours and an orange and gold spoon took the most on the rigger set 5 feet off bottom. This was the boys first trip they were able to reel them in on their own and the oldest netted one of his little brothers for him. That was a little nerve racking as it balanced on the rim for about 30 seconds but there high fives between them once it was secured. They did let me reel one in as they needed to give their arms a rest. We ended up going 10 for 12 and the trip ended with smiles all around and three tired out boys.

Nice job. It’s awesome to see, when they are finally able to do the fighting alone.

Way to go!

I also did a family trip. I had papa at the helm, with my wife, 5 yo daughter and 2 yo son. The plan was to have my daughter try to reel a fish instead of lifting pan fish up on to the dock.

A really late start... launched around 10am. We did 3 passes by the west tip and called it a successful outing.

Landed 2, lost 2 and had couple misses with the boards dropping back but no hook up.

Hits were on copper(shorts) and leadcore. I ran same colours on all rods. Similar to your hot spoon. #1 last year was Bad Melon in a shoehorn. I also like watermelon. Didnt run any this trip.

As for Ella. She was timid to try the first fish. Mom reeled it in. After seeing that Ella was up to trying. We got Ella on a 5 colour with a pretty good fish on. She was able to get about 125 - 150 feet of line in before being tuckered out. We did the hand off to Mom again. Ended up being an 18 lbs slob. Pretty impressed with Ella getting that much line in.

Hopefully next trip we can get her into a small laker...which may be tough. Last year we landed 67 and only 2 were under 10lbs.

I believe your one pic has us in your backdrop.

We were out as well. Only managed three fish. I think we were a little deep 120fow. They were not fast a furious like two weeks ago at that depth. I had an incling to try in closer and should have went with it. My boy also reeled in his first 10+lber. Good times. Great post. Follow me on Instagram as this season I will be using it for live posts and tips. Cheers. Adamm_fish_on

Lake was rolled up pretty good yesterday but still managed to slip out for about 2 hours. Lakers are still around and active, went 2 for 4 in the two hours we went out. The waves made boat control tough, but the trout seemed eager to cooperate when we could keep a bait in front of them. 50-60' water, green/orange with a silver back spoon was what worked for us.
