MEDIA RELEASE: Centre St. Boat Launched Closed Until Further Notice Due to High Water Levels
Please be advised that the Centre St. boat launch is closed until further notice due to higher than average water levels causing safety concerns.
Cuthill Lane, Adolphustown and Sherman’s Point boat launches remain accessible for boat launching; however, the dock at Sherman’s Point is out of service until water levels decrease.
Residents are asked to use caution if in Conservation Park during this time as water is flooding into the grassy areas of the park. Staff will be monitoring the water levels in Conservation Park and at the boat launches and will give notice once the Centre St. boat launch and Sherman’s Point dock have reopened.
In response to rising water levels, small quantities of sand will be placed before end of day on Friday, May 31, 2019 in the following four locations:
• The north end of the parking lot at South Fredericksburgh Community Hall;
• Adjacent to the Waste Water Treatment Plant at 300 Water Street;
• Adjacent to the parking lot at the Dorland Fire Hall; and
• 8 Abrams Rd (off County Rd 9)
Battlefield Equipment Rental in Greater Napanee has sand bags available for purchase.
Wakes from watercrafts can cause short- and long-term damage to the environment and the species living in and around the water. Damages include erosions along shorelines and damages to docking facilities and waterfront owners’ properties. The Lennox & Addington County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (O.P.P.) is asking boaters to be cognizant of the risk their wakes pose to these properties. The O.P.P. would like to remind vessel operators that Canada Shipping Act regulations limit the maximum speeds of vessels within 30 metres of shore to 10 km/h. Violations of the regulations are subject to fines. Please continue to respect signage posted to protect the natural environment.
If your property is being seriously affected by rising water, contact the Emergency Services Department at 613-354-4289 ext. 2231. Please leave your name, address and a brief description of the water level (i.e. “septic under water” or “water over basement windows”). Emergency Services is tracking and following up on water level impacts.
