Toothy Largemouth in Bay?

Hi everyone,

I was out this morning, in a small bay off of Big Bay, fishing frogs for largemouth.

Caught a 6.2 lbs which I netted. As I was about to lip it, I noticed sharp teeth. I've never seen that on a bass before, they weren't as big as walleye teeth, but definitely not regular bass teeth. If you lipped it, these teeth would certainly draw blood.

I did a double take and I'm 110% positive that it was in fact a largemouth bass.

Have any of you seen this before?

Are you sure it wasn’t a dog fish. They have little sharp teeth

I wish I had a pic - forgot my phone, heading out at 5am half asleep. I know where it's living and I'm gonna try to pull it out of there again, and then I'll get some pics of it.

Looked up dogfish, bowfin, etc. I can't see it being anything other than a bass but I could be wrong. The only fish I've been pulling out from these matts/pads are largemouth... I've boated at least ~50 in the last 3 days and they've all been largemouth bass.

And I think I could have been a little clearer earlier; these sharp teeth were not on the bottom lip/jaw but instead upper lib/jaw.

My wife doesn't believe any of this of course

Probably a bowfin they live in swampy padded areas

I looked up the scientific literature on Largemouth bass and no examples of sharp teeth.

In the absents of a picture, the only alternative fish that shares the same habitat as far as I know is what bigbassin18 and joey suggested.

A bowfin or dogfish.

you went from being 110% sure you caught a 6.2 lb largemouth with teeth (which turned out to be a bowfin), and said you caught 50 LMB in 3 days...and nobody has shredded you.

It all happened so fast and I'm always paranoid about keeping fish out too long so I was moving really quick.

In hindsight, having replayed the moment over and over in my head, I do recall thinking: man, that's weird skin pattern for a bass.
