I caught a fish from the Trent river that I thought (at first) was a Silver Bass. It had a knobby looking head, and only one line down the side. I let it go again, but when I got home I did some google work, and the closest thing I can find is something called a "white Perch". Apparently, it is invasive as it eats walleye and bass eggs.
Anyone ever caught one around here before? Are we supposed to kill them? What's the scoop?

(fished from shore in about 8 to 10 feet of water)

Where do you get the invasive info from......,.https://www.ontario.ca › page › white-perch
White Perch. Information about the White Perch (Morone Americana), a warm-water fish native to Ontario.

In order to control the white perch population, when I land one, I usually pan fry it. Very tasty.

Tons of white perch in the bay. Commonly misidentified as white bass. Key ID feature between the two is the dorsal fins. There are two on the dorsal side of the fish and if they are connected, it’s a white perch. The stripes aren’t a reliable feature since sometimes they aren’t very distinct.

Thanks for the info, guys. I thought I made an error in letting it go.

Apparently, I need to work on my google skills. I was looking at an American site and it said that these fish should not be released back into the water. Next time I get one, I'll fry em up and see if they are worth keeping.
