Had Tuesday off and with the low wind forecasted for the day hooked up the boat, picked up Mr Cymbals and headed to Waupoos launch. For the first few hours played close by and didn't catch anything. Didn't like the green tinged colored water so decided to head out to the Islands.
Out there we found the same colored water and a few fish but no size. As the afternoon set in the wind had all but disappeared and the fish started biting better but only on the longer casts away from the boat.
A number of times fish were right under the boat and feeding them a drop shot or tube wasn't working but make a long cast and make sure your bait was on bottom before closing the bail resulted in signifcantly more bites.
Was only able to crack the 5 lb mark twice with a 5.8 and a 5.5. The biggest came on a black tube and the others all came on drop shot baits. Water temp was 61°.

Way to go Dan, nice fish. Big smallmouth not only tug the line they also also electrify all bass anglers. Sure wish they used to migrate into the bay like they used to. Rush Barr and Minnie Blakey shoal used to be real hot spots late fall.

Great report, Dan. Glad to see some still around and catchable.

I found much the same last Wednesday. Marked fish but they wouldn't bite close to the boat and most were small.

cheers

the long cast dropshot is underrated for finicky (or any) fish. Nice work out there.

Nice going. Me trying to get out one more time this Sunday in Hay Bay before shutting the bat down for the season
