We started at about 9:30 am.
In first hour we had 3 bites. We missed one.

Classic lures worked for us:
my favorite Mann's stretch 20+ chrome blue original ( not newest holographic )
    Reef runner Erie decent
    Rapala DHJ12 in whitish color.

We did not have a bite till 3 p.m. It became cloudy & darker.
I had Reef Runner in dark purple color and gold flakes on the belly.
Reef runner web site does not even show this color.

Friend of mine shouted, we have a fish on outer planner board.
After short shakes line broke and planner board started drifting away.
Palundra captain loudly said. And the team started pulling the rest of rods back to boat.

To our surprise we could easily find this planner board.
The magic came after. I had the rest of my line to the lure, still attached to planner board.
I started pulling this line by hand. And guess what?
I pulled 28 inch walleye with my lure by hand. Fish was so tired that it did not resist at all.

LOL
Nice to hear others fess up, on their non-planned adventures!
Glad to hear you retrieved your gear and would count the fish as a bonus.
Last June I lost a Offshore Board c/w the upgrade adjustable snap, line, trolling weight & lure to what we assume was a Sheepshead, board jumped sideways then went under and never resurfaced, we were finding walleye 6-8 ft down over 35fow in Long Reach, it was just a homemade worm harness but the upgraded board and snap weight bit deep into that weeks gas allowance. We continued fishing the area for a few more hours, never saw the gear again?

I lost a board that got tangled up with another line with a fish on it. I had written my name and phone number on the first two planer boards I bought but none of the subsequent ones. Naturally, it was a board without my contact info on it that I lost. I've made good use of my sharpie since then. Thanks for your report and nice job getting your 28 inch walleye in by hand!

Cheers, Kevin
