A couple of buddies arrive early Sunday morning at Merland Park to join me for a day of chasing Quinte gold! We leave Merland Park shortly after 7am and head towards the reach. It's a beautiful day, cool and just below the freeing mark in the morning and warming up to a balmy 5 degrees with sunshine and very little wind. It was calm on the bay until later in the afternoon. We pounded the north shore for the longest time with no luck, we ran the south shore a way up towards the gap. We just could seem to entice the bite today. We had one on early in the day but it spit the hook before we even saw it. Then a lot of waiting for another hit but it never came. We saw other boats netting fish so we knew they were there. Two different boats netted two fish in a row while we trolled along side of them. So frustrating! The Walleye of Quinte can be fickle ladies at times. That's just fishing! We tried everything we had on the boat to trick these often picky walleye. Different colours, different manufactures, different depths. Finally, at 3:00 pm the wind and waves had come up, it was quite rough and uncomfortable but this is when a planer board finally fired off! It's certainly that much sweeter when you haven't had any action all day.

So, at 3:00 pm we are heading east with the waves on the south shore east of the Bat Cave. One of the rigs we have resorted too is search of a walleye is a 7 colour leadcore towing what looks like a perch in the video. It's green with an orange belly. We were so excited to finally get one I didn't take note of what lure it actually was. We didn't measure him but he was 4 pounds. Dispite only catching one fish, we still had some great camaraderie out in the boat and it was a great day out on the water. Below is some pictures and videos from the day! Enjoy!

Cheers, Kevin

Atmospheric pressure changes will push out the eyes like that.

It's from fishing to deep, hope you kept it as it probably wouldn't have survived if released.
Using 7 colours of lead-core gets spoons down 35' don't know how that affects a crank bait, still it's well into the danger zone for walleye getting the "bends"

Yes, we picked this one up pretty deep! Fortunately he wasn't too big. The young lads I took out that day were pretty happy to take it home with them. It was the only one we caught!
