Went out for a few hours today in a canal area close to home. Ice this year is just too varied to even answer the question of "How is the ice on so and so?"
Drilled 9 holes about 50 to 75 feet apart and came up with 4 definite thicknesses on the creature. The ice ranged from 5 inches to 13 inches and the thinner ice was not even where one would consider being an area of thinner ice. A lot of cracking popping and growling from the Ice surfaces today.
The reward of the day was a 5-6 pound pike though.
