Decided a change of scenery was needed and headed to haybay. Arrived around 1pm to a pretty full parking lot and huts everywhere. We headed out onto the ice and set up in 26'. Started off with perch but then they disappeared and soon started seeing better marks. Finally got one to bite and iced a 4 lber. Ended the day with 3 fish all the same size and lost 3 as well. Partner with me iced a pair too. Each fish came on a different lure, small gold/org sidewinder, Lill Finn silv/green and clam leech spoon in gold/green. I found that interesting BC each of those lures all have different fall rates/action. No rhyme or pattern to the bite

Dan,

Appreciate you sharing your adventures. Understand how tight-lipped everyone is there and why, but for those of us that don't live on the bay, some hope and positive encouragement is nice every now and then.

Dan

I respect the people that are tight lipped, I work in the city and I never want to fish in the city!
Do your homework, Go fishing and when you catch it's a bonus.
Nothing worse than coming out and where you caught fish yesterday, people are on your exact waypoints.

Exactly why I never post anymore, the fun is finding them!! IMO

I don't often post on here because I am not local, I only fish Hay Bay once a year for a couple days and might not be appreciated much. I have found this forum helpful at times especially when folks post about areas that have sketchy ice and where to avoid.
Anyway I fished Thursday 13th and Friday 14th. Ice in the bay was 9 to 11 inches except near Shermans point. I only caught a lot of small Walleyes from as small as 4 inches to 14 inches and Perch.

They hit on almost anything I dropped down the hole, but Silver and Green Slender spoons and Blue and Silver jigging Rapalas seemed to be the favorite.

Saturday 15th I didn't catch a fish all morning. Hardly marked anything on my Lorance and I tried every lure in the kit except one. Saturday evening I put on a Pink Swedish Pimple tipped with a minnow head. an old timer once told me that was all he used so I figured desperate times call for desperate measures. Well, behold the results in the photos. A new personal best 31" and a 28 incher, (on the mat with the lure in its lip) within minutes of each other, both released for spawning. Kept 2 smaller eaters 18" and 20". Sunday morning fished just that lure and limited out, the biggest @ 29". Hope this might help someone.
