Has anyone heard anything about the tournament? Everything else is being cancelled.

I was talking to them today. They are looking into all their options with the current situation that we are in. They said to me that they should have answers this coming weekend.

Does this mean they are changing the opener start as well for zone 20?

Season opener is set by MNR no reason to delay it, that's Memorial day weekend, lots of american guest if they open the border by then, probably will be a 10lb or smaller fish that takes home the prize, looks like an early spring, most of the big girls will be over at Henderdon Harbour by then.

I hope this happens, but I highly doubt it.

if I was a betting man, I would bet it is cancelled completely this year or maybe till late summer.

Just saw this - F Y I

https://www.quintenews.com/2020/04/13/kiwanis-walleye-weekend-pushed-back-not-cancelled-for-now/

This is the text without the pictures:

The Trenton Kiwanis Walleye World Fishing Derby is still on for now, but has been pushed back.
Normally, the fishing tourney is the first weekend in May, however officials have pushed it back to the weekend of May 24, one week after the long weekend.
Chairman Remco De Gooyer tells Quinte News that the Kiwanis Club will be meeting next week to decide whether to move the date again, or cancel it for the year.
De Gooyer says they had about 3,200 participants last year, from as far away as the Yukon and Texas.
The thousands of dollars the event raises annually goes to numerous projects and groups, including minor sports in Quinte West.
Quinte News will update the story once the Kiwanis Club makes a decision next week.

I think they should just cancel for this year. If it’s not on opener it doesn’t have the same appeal. If you move it later in the spring or into summer I think you would have big issues with fish mortality.

Agreed.

It is just not worth the risk.

On behalf of the many small family owned cottage/campgrounds and trailer parks I hope they run it in the summer. These places are really going to be hurting. I agree there is the potential for higher mortality and at the same time the fishery is stable and in light of the much lower ice fishing pressure and probably lower spring fishing pressure this year it's a straight trade off.

Reading In-Quinte News today, looks like the City of Quinte West will make the decision for them tomorrow night. Really hope they can re-schedule for later, can't imagine the effect all theses events being cancelled will have on local charities.
