Mud cat

I had friend that was fishing mud cat up in the bay he sent me pic does anybody know what the spots are in the fillet

If it was given to me, I would toss it. Don't know what they are, but the fillet should not look like that.

Definitely a disease or parasite of some sort. I wouldn't eat it.

My friend caught around 60 bullheads last week down in hay bay and they were all like this they had all these spots threw the meet what ever they are feeding on must have some kind of parasite that is causing the bullheads to get it

If you can get past the gross factor, once cooked it will be fine. Soak in salt water over night and that get most parasites out of the meat.

I think it’s more upsetting then gross to see this... I will try the salt...not sure if I will still eat them or not I’ve got compost so I have a feeling they will be headed there

Is there more than one mud cat with these in them or just the one? I have seen "white grubs" in the meat at the base of the tail in mud cat but never seen this before. No way would I enjoy eating that! Nooooo wayyyyy!!!

Ya they are all like this um around 60 of them that my friend caught every on is like this

I heard they are safe to eat after cooking thoroughly. Pretty sure this is why the commercial fisherman cannot sell them anymore. I could be wrong.

I see these grubs in panfish all the time but not that many, still fine to eat once cooked just don’t show the pic to anyone you are sharing them with!

Ya We just tossed every one of the bullheads 57 of them in compost... tried soaking them in salt over night but it never removed the parasite out of the meat if that what it is... um very disappointed seeing this if any other local fisherman that are fishing bullheads down in hay bay please post on this topic is this new thing that has just happened we use to fish benns point before it was all bought up and could not get access any more for bullheads never had this parasite in the meat

This isn't new. I stopped keeping them in the bay along time ago because they all began to have these in them. They are a parasite of some kind and no matter how cold the water they come out of, they are in it. You can see them on the tail as soon as you pull them in.
