Finally made it out yesterday for a couple of hours in the late afternoon. Not being a walleye fisherman, I made my way to where I thought my best opportunity to wrangle a few 'Bayacudas' might be. Well I made the correct decision, I found them in numbers. Although I never landed anything huge I did manage to stir the intrest and hunger of 10 altogether in my 2 hours. They were extremely lathargic but with a slow retrieve they would cooperate with me. They all were caught in 5-7 feet or so of water and I used a clown pattern jerk bait and a hand tied clown pattern single colorado spinnerbait. If possible I will try again today as the next few days look more March like than May.

Well I made it back out yesterday to the same location where I had success the day before. different day, no sun and surface temp had dropped by 2 degrees. the pike were still there but not nearly as cooperative as the day before. i never landed any and only had 2 follow and nip at my bait all the way back to the boat but no commitment and no hooksets. pulled the plug on the pike and dropped a jig for some walleye at Northport shoal but nothing not even a mark on the lowrance. Ended up getting chilly, and i have a bad back and when I get cold I shut down just like the fish did. Its nice just getting out making a few casts getting the back ready for bass season and my real passion. So far this morning looks promising so possibly I can get out this afternoon.

Yes the pike fishing has been great. I’m up fishing for walleye but the walleye fishing is terrible in long reach and the narrows. Managed an 8lb and 12lb pike off my docks yesterday. Big silver spoon or a white jig with rubber body bait on it.

Nice job Howard. That's all I'm catching on Westlake too.
