A couple of weeks ago the town of Gananoque opened a number of it launches. Kingston followed suit today and opened a number of its public launches. I have added contact information for the Mayors in the surrounding municipalities of Quinte. If you are a local resident please take a moment to email your mayor and ask them to follow suite. When sending email please include your mailing address and a phone number. Mayors tend to respond better if they know its a local voter. All of the Quinte region Health officials and Mayors meet on a regular basis and they will operate in unison. Ask for the reopening of boat launches to be put on the agenda. I will be doing the same.
I emailed the Belleville Mayor myself in March and have attached his response for you here. At the bottom of this post I have added contact emails/info for the area Mayors. We all know that we can be safe, the trend of cases is declining and vast areas of the province have their launches open its time local residents be allowed to use launches too

Good morning Mr. Elliott.

Thank you for your e-mail. The City of Belleville closed our municipal boat launches on the advice of the Prince Edward Hastings Health Board as part of the province-wide orders. I understand all of our neighbouring jurisdictions have also closed their municipal boat launches as part of the requirements to close all public spaces with the exception of walking trails and connections to walking trails.

I am very anxious to see a relaxation of the provincial restrictions and hope that Belleville will be among the first to be allowed to re-open facilities like our parks, marinas and boat launches. I believe we are ready once the Province of Ontario gives us the go ahead. Until then, unfortunately, our municipal facilities including the boat launches will remain closed.

I know this will disappoint you but I am sure you can understand our position.

Best wishes,

Mitch Panciuk, Mayor

Subject: RE: City Boat Launches

Mayor Panicuk,
Today Kingston reopened 5 of it boat launches. The week before the city of Gananogue opened a number of its launches. With the downward trend in cases It seems to be the right time for Mayors to act in unison across the Quinte region and allow local residents to use launches. I own and operate Quintefishing.com an online forum for thousands of Bay of Quinte Anglers and will be asking local Quinte region resident Anglers to reach out to their respective Mayors with this request. I believe there are regular meetings with Public health officials and neighboring Mayors during this time and am asking for you to put it on the agenda for your next mtg.
I have included the news release from Kingston. I don’t have the Gananoque one on hand. I would appreciate a response after you have had conversations with neighboring Mayors.
Thank you and regards,
Danny Elliot

Mayors Response

Good evening Mr. Elliott,

Thanks very much for the e-mail and the new information. I have submitted a question on this to the Health Board for our call tomorrow and will report back to you on the decision. I think with the news about allowing marinas to prepare for reopening in the near future this has changed things.

I'll let you know what the decision is.

Thanks and best wishes,
