Take it to ProTackle they will get it done, also if you can locate Mike Chesterton as another option.

In Kingston, contact the Brown Bear, he's an authorized reel repairer

Its all me and my buddies used growing up. I remember the bail springs never last worth a hoot. If you can find bail springs grab 3 or 4. Otherwise it was a great reel the could handle everything from big pike to river steelhead.

My neighbour has well over 200 Mitchell reels and most are the 300's. He's obviously a collector and even has a big glass display cabinet for his most prized reels.

I also grew up using these and except for the bail-springs, as gigrock pointed out breaking, these were awesome.

I still love the sound of them reeling in.

Good luck.

My father always used Mitchells and when i was young using my Zebco 33 I wanted to use his reels. My father has been dead for 35 years and I still have his last Mitchell he bought at the Toronto Sporstman Show, which we never missed.

You got me thinking, mine from 40+/- years ago was sitting on a shelf in the barn. It's a 301A, I could never get used to winding with my left hand lol. A bit of a spray with WD40 and a tooth brush and she is good to go.

Wow!

Wasn't the original reel Green, Hutchy?

We have one lying 'somewhere' in the Garage... 'nuff said!~

IF we ever find it, lying right beside will be several other 'priceless items', including a transducer for the last remaining fish finder we have... or can lay our paws on.

Gave the rest to other Folks, and naturally now could 'reely' use one.~

Smells like a looming trip to Wally World for us. This weather CANNOT be ignored - wind speeds are a dream for us Olde Pharts now down to a single 12' vessel.

Rgds, Wordpecker.

Yes, mine is not the oldes model, there are older ones lol, not sure on the colour they were. I only remember them being black and they came in a red and black plastick box. Google images has a lot of pics of them andsome prices.

Those Mitchell 300 were rock solid, then came the Cardinals and still all I use. I have 3 of the Cardinal 3 and 8 of the 4, with all kinds of spools. Great reel and I remember getting them from Chris Lyons at the Outdoor store in Toronto for $20.00

The Mitchell 300 was the standard from France in the 50's. like many of you I have one that was my Dad's and it's in storage, not going to be used.

As Dave Chong mentioned the Cardinal Reels came along in the 70's & 80's, they WERE GREAT.

I had all the sizes and in the initial eBay craze, I sold my Cardinals for a Very good prices.

I sure caught a lot of fish on the Mitchell 300 I had.

Don't let go of them.
