Fish Die-off

I was talking to a friend who is a biologist at Glenora fisheries station. He told me that there is something up with the sheephead population on the bay. As many of you reported they are all over the place. The MNR has taken samples and shipped them off to be analyzed. it is probably some kind of virus or parasite. When I know more will post it. Just glad it is not hitting the walleye /bass/pike populations

A few years ago I saw a number of walleye floating; all 6 lb and above. I was told that it was natural for a few females to die off from the stress of spawning. Don't know if I was getting the gears or not....

We noticed a number of fish in that range floating on the way into Merland on Sunday. 1 sheepshead and at least half a dozen Walleyes. I was afraid the walleye were because of the mystery weight weigh in. The were fresh and a couple were still wiggling

last saturday we saw a dead sheephead floating on the surface or the water while fishing on west lake as well. only saw that one fish so i didn't bother reporting it, i didn't think it was anything unusual cause seeing a dead fish once in a while is common. i guess it's a little more common this year huh?

It will be interesting to see what this might be. Right at ice off or during the warmest part of the summer and I might have a guess; there are and have been so many changes that I would not want to even speculate. Hopefully it is not some kind of dicease, or parasite, with an increased risk of cross contamination.

yes there were a great nuber of sheephead laying on the shore lines that I saw from last week-end?But the strange thing that I saw was a pike about 4lbs swiming by with black and white patches all over its body?Then later in another area a bass with the same markings?Interesting to find out what thats all about........................twister :?:
