Finally using my Merland Park prize from last year's Walleye tourney, this weekend with the family. My buddy got the fish, so he took 3 days, I got 2. Never fished the Waupoos area but figure I'll try and get my boy into some good sized pike or walleye as I've read a lot of posts about that area being good this time of year for arriving walleye from the big water, and huge pike. Looks like good protection from a west wind for my 16 ft boat. Best place to launch? Figure we'll fish around the island, maybe troll down towards Port Milford.

Hey Jamie -
Best place to launch is at the marina. (Remember to use the honour box - tough year to be in the marina business... ).
Pick your day and watch the wind/weather, especially in a SW wind. The whole bay north of the island is never deeper than about 12 feet, so waves coming out of South Bay can really stack up. Smiths Bay and around Morrison Pt is sheltered in most west winds.
Getting out to Green Island isn't too far a run - you can even troll out across the shoal that runs from the eastern point of the island. Not sure that I'd head as far as the False Ducks in a 16 foot boat unless you were real sure of the wind.
Good luck!

No pike there...I don't know what everyone is talking about

The marina in waupoos is the place to launch.

Trolling anywhere in the 15ft - 35ft range has been beneficial I've found.

Launch at the marina to fish around Waupoos or Green Island. I'd go to the Long Point launch if you wanted to fish Timber or False Duck if you have a 16 ft.

It hasn't been great yet this year for me but generally I find I get more numbers casting the 10-12 feet north of Waupoos Island but if you want bigger ones, then trolling deeper gives the best shot.

I wouldn't launch at long point. The water levels have been dropping and it was getting pretty skinny in the harbour at long point a few weeks ago. Will be worse now

That launch is unusable unless you’re fishing in a canoe. The water was up to my knees

What is it about the Long Point Launch that changes, is it purely a lower water level or does sediment wash in?

The first time I used it a couple of years ago there was only a few inches of water above what seemed a couple of feet of mud. I only had a 14 ft. boat then and poled my way through. Since then I've used it a few times and it was always great. So does the water level drop or mud wash in?

was only able to get out for 2 hours Fri night, got a bit cold for the kids. Marked a lot of suspended fish north side of green isl, had one on briefly on a reef runner down 15 feet over 25 ft of water, that was it. Should have brought my shotgun as there were plenty of cormorants hanging around Green Isl. Always nice to explore new places.
