Hey guys,

Looking at getting a new vehicle to tow my boat with, but wondering how important 4x4 is? Do you guys launch using it often, or will a 2wd truck be sufficient? Most of the time I launch at the old hay bay launch and my boat isn't much more than 2000lbs with boat, motor and trailer combined.

My concern is if that water levels are so low that the rear tires get wet I may not be able to get off the ramp. The truck I am looking at is the Colorado or Canyon.

Thanks guys for your input.

spend the money and get 4x4 you will use it more when you are not launching your boat than you do when you are launching, its worth it in the fall and winter. As far as launching goes its not only when the water is low, any time the air temps dips below 0 at night launches get icy from the run off as people pull trailers in and out of the water. The church isnt bad for this but any places with a longer cement pad will ice up quite a bit.

I’ve used the 4x4 lots pulling boats out. Especially late fall when it’s slippery.

Thanks for the replies. I was thinking 4x4 was a must, but wasn't sure.

We think you'll find the important thing about 4x4 is PEACE OF MIND, and that's a full-time benefit.

No matter what you're doing, the first time you need it just nod your noggin and go "Yeah".~

Just noticed we submitted this post TWICE!!!!

Can't figure out how to delete the second one; can you do that for us?

Apologies and Thanks, Wordpecker

As stated above, the peace of mind is great when you know your boat will be coming out of the water or if you use a slightly sketchy launch and it is not overly intimidating because of the 4WD. I have used it many times out of habit and a few times out of necessity.
