Quinte Fishing

What speed do you troll at in the fall. Do you differ from the spring or summer?

As a general rule of thumb...the colder the water temperature, the slower the presentation. After all, fish are cold-blooded creatures. However, more important is the action of individual lures...different lures achieve their maximum action at different speeds. Some lures are speed tolerant and operate well over a large range of speeds, some lures only work well at a very specific speed. Best to experiment...hang the lure over the size of the boat on a short lead, and see at what speed it works best. Also, some days they like it fast, others days slow...that's just the nature of fishing. Making "S" bends when trolling will cause your lures to speed up and slow down...providing some clues to what the fish are liking that day. However, when boating traffic is heavy, making "S" turns isn't going to win you any friends.
That all being said, 1.5 to 2.2 mph is my general range for cold water walleye.

Ditto on Crowmans s-turns. We've had days out there where the only bites came on the turn. Doesn't have to be big long turns more of a drastic turn to get the reaction strike of the bait floating up or digging deep
