Quinte Fishing

Hi Everyone,

I visited the Bay of Quinte on the weekend and thought I'd write a little report.

My Lady and I took the day off work on Friday and traveled down to Picton. We arrived at Merland Park Cottages in the afternoon, check in, rigged up and launched the boat before the sun set. It's always nice to have things all ready to go. Just untie the boat in the morning and head down the bay.

We enjoyed the sunset at Merland Park on Friday night, The we headed to Gus's Family Restaurant for dinner.




Saturday Morning we were heading down the bay by 7:00 am and setup and fishing in Adolphus Reach by 7:30. It was an unusually warm November morning, a little breezy and choppy on the water.

We had set out an array of diving body baits with 100 feet of line behind the planer board and varying snap weights between 1/2 an ounce and 2 ounces 50 feet ahead of the lure. Our speed was 1.7 plus or minus a point. The surface temperature was 55.2 f.

We hooked into our first fish at 9:00 am in 105 feet of water.

A 2 1/2 pound walleye caught on a Purple Bay Rat lure and 2 ounce snap weight.




Shortly after 10:00 am in 119 feet of water we hooked into our second fish.

After a nice tug of war, my Lady caught this 9 lb 2 oz walleye on Reef Runner Gold Shiner 800 series and no snap weight. Her personal best! She was a happy gal!




Around 10:45 am, we had another big fish on for a few minutes but it tangled in one of the other lines and spit the hook. That's fishing!

The wind picked up as it got later in the morning, it was pretty rough on the water. Boat control was challenging and it wasn't too comfy so we packed up and headed back to Merland Park for Lunch. We were off the water before noon and enjoyed the warmth and sunshine back at camp for a few hours.

We also enjoyed another beautiful sunset at Merland Park before heading to Coaches Pub and Grillhouse for a nice steak dinner.



We were back on the water by 7:15 am on Sunday and setup by 7:45 am. What a perfect day! The sun was shining, it was exceptional warm, the water was dead calm. It warmed up as the day went on and we were in T-shirts by mid day! The water stayed flat all day. Talk about spoiled, conditions couldn't have been better. I didn't keep track of the details as closely on Sunday but we were back fishing in Adolphus Reach and covered a lot of water between the lighthouse and 1/2 way to the gap. We stayed mostly between 105 and 130 feet of water. At the end of the day we went 3 for 6. We had a couple of good rips early but both spit the hook pretty quickly.

Our first fish was at 10:40. We thought we had a nice pickerel on until it got to the boat and then the ole groan, "It's a sheepshead!" Caught on the purple Bay Rat Lure.




We hooked into our first Walleye in the late morning. It was 3 pounds and caught on the Reef Runner Gold Shiner 800 series.




Our Second Walleye was caught around noon. It was 4 pounds and caught on the Purple Bay Rat Lure.




Our Third Walleye of the day was caught at 1:15. It was six pounds and caught on a Reef Runner Barbie 800 series.




We packed up at 2:30 and headed back to Merland Park where we loaded the boat and headed home after enjoying the sunset. What a fabulous weekend!

Thanks for sharing, it was great to hear about the fall fishing as the board has been very quiet.

Looking at your post again, I was wondering what kind of scale are you using, those fish appeared bigger than you thought.

I was thinking that same thing. The 3-4 lbs look more like 6-7 lbs

You should Have Been Here Yesterday

We were out on Sunday and managed a six pounds and caught it on a Reef Runner Barbie as well with a 2 oz snap weight 50 ft in front of the bait and 150 ft back. Thanks for the info and your sunset pic.

Thanks for all your comments. The truth is the battery on my scale was dying so these weights were what it read before it shut off from a dead battery. I would get about 30 seconds of power each time I tried to weight a fish. So, the weights might be a little skewed but I did purchase some new batteries tonight so I'm good to go for my next trip!

so what your saying is the 28 incher might be 16 pounds? nice report!!!
