It's been done in the US for years, with a yearly sticker for your boat.

IF the monies taken by the yearly license went to Fisheries to pay for good things for fish, then it would be acceptable.

Not going into general revenue for other stuff.

Looks like the licensing changes relates to an abandoned boat problem. Maybe they'll pick up the one on the shore at Finkle's.

Do they think putting fees on licensing and registration is going to emcourage people to register? If they aren’t registered now, they won’t be if it’s not free

Definitely another tax grab under the guise of a problem with abandon vessels!

6 meters just over 19 and a half feet if it's overall length it could include a 17 foot boat with a bow mount and outboard. I've had marinas charge overall length .

reply from my MP

"Transport Canada announced further details on this matter yesterday, stating that a $15 fee will be implemented on all pleasure craft licensing starting in 2022. Additionally, there will be new fees for pleasure craft operator cards as well, but this will not apply to those who already hold an operator card.

Transport Canada will also be ending the lifetime non-renewable licenses and reduce license renewal period to five years instead of ten years.

These measures are being put in place, not as a tax grab, but rather to help cover the $2 million that Transport Canada spends on administering licenses each year.

Regarding your inquiry on the removal of derelict boats, Transport Canada has not yet confirmed what measures they will be taking, however they are exploring options for a surcharge fee to help them clean up wrecked boats/ships. This fee would be charged during the license fee processing.

More details will be released in the near future on this matter. If you have any other questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact our office at any time."
