Hablover and I had tried lake trout in March earlier this year before launches closed and had some vague ideas of what we were doing but didn't really have the equipment and had no success. We bought some better gear in the meantime with an eye to try lake trout again when the season opened in December.
We went on Saturday for five hours and managed to land 7 lakers. The morning started out great as we got a one on the initial drop of the spoon on the first line we put out. Needless to say that pace didn't keep up. There wasn't any real pattern that we picked out. We caught them staggared throughout the five hours, in 30 - 70 fow, and on five different spoons. The wind was definitely something we had to keep an eye on and the ride back certainly was wet and cold.
