See the link below. The most notable changes are catch and release seasons for smallmouth and largemouth bass and a change of opener for smallmouth.

I'm both sad and happy for these changes.
Obviously sad for my own personal fishing reasons. I had a great opener for Smallies last year and always am antsy to get at it every year.

But glad because I think it will be good for the fishery. The spawn was definitely happening still this past year and the more we can protect them the better.

I love both reg changes. The change to the smallmouth opener is WAY overdue. The early season catch and release will provide some challenging efforts for consistent catches. There may be some challenges with regards to some enforcing and informing the public on the catch and release, ie dead or injured bass details. All in all a move in the right direction for anglers and fish.

Boqbass, I agree these are good changes. I know a lot of data collection on the bay's largemouth fishery and the lakes smallmouth fishery over the years was used to make these changes and that these will ensure the sustainability of both fisheries. It will be fun trying to figure out either species at 1st ice out

That's true - I feel like it will be a new challenge trying to catch some ice out bass.

Being fortunate to spending most of my life living on the water, I was able to observe this several times. Just as the ice is leaving the shoreline and still on the majority of the body of water, bass will cruise the shoreline and I mean real close to shore in the skinniest of water. At my one piece of property there was a lay down in front of my place and the bass would hang off that as most of it was under ice. This spring is gonna be fun!!
