Hi Everybody,

I have been out twice now with my new Lowrance 102c and have a few questions. I took a few screen shots at the mouth of Hay Bay.

Notice the return around 15'every pic has it and the last 2 have 2 returns in the middle of the screen that are solid lines. Anybody have an idea what they could be. I'm concerned because it shows up all the time. I wondering it the unit is defective or could it be interference

Image 1
What would you say that big cloud is behind the speed Perch or Walleye?

Image 2
What about the cloud at the bottom Walleye or perch?
Image

Image 3
Would you call the big return a Pike or Walleye? What about the smaller
hooks in the middle of the screen perch?
Image

Image 4
What type of fish would you think these?

Image 5
Here is another cloud with a small hook to the left and 2 near by at the
bottom right

Image 6 & 7
Notice the hooks at the bottom. Could that be Pike or Walleye?

Check out the amout of yellow on the bottom in these last 2 images. I'd
say that this is a harder bottom maybe rock or hard mud?

RangerGuy...
Check out Doc Bruce Samson's site. He explains alot of the questions you have....also it will save me alot of typing

http://www.hightechfishing.com/sonar.html

The constant line at 15ft seems to be some sort of feed back. I don't think it is the thermocline showing yet. Have you tried it on another 12volt power source to see if it is being caused by a trolling motor, outboard etc?

Cheers'

Thanks eye tracker

That is an awesome article :)

Yeh I am little concerned that the line could be feedback because I run the unit off of the starting battery. Also I just re-did all the battery connections in the boat.

So I'll have to redo depthfinder connections to a totally seperate battery. Maybe the motor is giving some false information on the screen.

Although I'd hate to have to put yet another battery in the boat which would make a total of 4. I also just mounted a 2 battery onboard charger. So if I have to put another battery in LOL! I'm back where I started as far as battery charging goes.

I am just curious to see what other people think those return "hooks" are. I've never had a unit of this power and since I don't seem to be able to catch a walleye this spring to confirm what my screen is marking LOL! I am wondering what other people would think they are.

the big balls are schools of bait fish. The small dark archs are your walleye, drum, lakers, pike or small mouth bass.

does that help?

BTW...
you did not have a downrigger set at 15ft did you? this will show a steady line on your sonar becaue the downrigger ball in in the path of the sonar ping.

Nope no downriggers. I figured the clouds were baitfish I just wanted to confirm :)

The thing is I didn't know whether to class those suspend hooks (little blue ones) as larger gamefish or little perch because I haven't caught anything lately to compare LOL!
