Hello all, I have a question about the Garmin Echomap UHD 95sv. I was wondering if anyone on the board is running these units. My question is about the GPS. Cabelas has these on sale, and in the product description it says preloaded with Canada inland lakes. My second question is, does anyone know how good the preloaded mapping is? Will I likely need to purchase a map chip as well or download anything? I have never used Garmin units before but the price is great and the reviews look really good. I would appreciate any info from someone who runs Garmin. By the way Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all.

Thanks

i have had one of these units not the uhd though and it was great i also had the panoptix the mapping is fine gives you all the contours and the gt54 transducer is a good transducer good old workhorse you can always get other transducers with other freqs later if you feel the need but i think you will be happy with this unit. if you buy one you will not lose money on it after when price goes back up you can still sell it for that price if you wish to move to other unit. i myself will probably pick one of these up with the new panoptix box. you can also get xtra cradle cheap and move from the console of boat to front of boat by just snapping it in if you get other transducers for trolling motor . just tell the wife it will never be priced lower than this

In November I bought an ECHOMAP™ UHD 75sv, (on sale at 30% off) The preloaded maps are good in my opinion. Also good is the ability to download the maps onto a 32 GB micro SD card (12 bucks at Staples). With the maps on the SD card you can view them on a PC after you have downloaded the FREE Garmin ``Homeport`` program. You can also record your track and sonar signal for your entire day of fishing for later viewing on your PC, Garmins Homeport shows you the recorded track with an inset displaying the sonar display vs position so you can know location, time of day and sonar view at the time that you caught the big fish two days earlier. This takes the postgame analysis of your day of fishing to a whole new level. My decision to buy the Garmin unit was influenced by the fact that the Garmin Homeport software is free. Some of the other GPS sonar combos want another 200 bucks for the software. The homeport software is quite similar to the Garmin Basecamp software that I have used for years with my Garmin etrex handheld GPS.

I've been running the Echomap plus for just over a year now. Switched from HB 798si with Navionics hotmaps chip.
The the built in Navi maps in the Garmin,.. it's awesome. I fished Haybay, St. Lawrence, Upper French river, upper, lower Ottawa river, many lakes in between. Mapping was all there and then some. Other features, side/down scan, sonar, all fantastic.
The cabelas deal is the best available for a 9 inch screen IMO.
It's off the boat now and in my home made ice bundle.
cheers
