Health issues have me looking at ways to ease the stress on my back and ticker. Been looking at an electric winch to help wind the boat onto trailer, big differences in pricing! Looking for advice from those who know? Have also looked at the plastic slides "Caliber" that attach to bunks as an alternative or in combination with winch
Boat + Motor + Full load of gas & gear aprox. 2500lbs single axle double bunk trailer, boats at my dock May opener till Thanksgiving however do like to load it up and go to Wicklow and chase Salmon 3-4 times, also 6-8 times in spring & fall for lakers and big Eyes.
Any input would be welcome

I've tried it but it was a pain in the a&& . You might try a bigger 2 stage winch or simply run through a pully at the boat and back to the trailer to cut your effort in half.

BWH I had the same problem so I bought the Fulton FW32000101 2 speed winch and my friends were really impressed how easy it was to crank the boat up even on an incline..I am really happy with it as it makes my life so much easier to go boating...It is on Amazon for 238.43 with free shipping.. I have the Caliber bunk covering and it works well on a lighter boat. I found that my boat is easier to winch into the trailer.
I'd say that the heavier the boat, the less effective they'll be.
I'd go with the 2 stage winch, if you still need a bit more help, then try the Caliber.

I had a heavy 24' glass cuddy cabin and when fully loaded with fuel and gear, it weighed close to 6000 lbs. I also had a two stage winch on the trailer. However, I also was dealing with rollers and not bunks, but it definitely made a difference having the lower gearing when the boat was out of the water, on the trailer but still a foot or two from the winch tower.

Thanks for the input guys, seems universal so far that a good 2 speed hand crank is the way to go, I have a decent 1 year old winch however to change speeds you have to move handle, I can just imagine the comments if I was to pull out a socket wrench halfway in retrieving my boat. I will replace it and probably get the bunk wraps as well.
