Has anyone been to by bay to see how things are ? Buddy and I are going to check Sherman’s launch tomorrow but wondering if anyone else has checked in the last couple days and if it’s worth our time or if we should just go to big bay.

Not new to quinte so we know the ice is inconsistent but we will be using spud bars checking as we go wearing floatation and have rope just wondering if we are wasting our time

We ended up going to big island just to play it safe. I had a few people on Facebook tell me ice at Sherman’s was open the day before and just froze over and that it was 1 hut with a spud. Also had a guy on Facebook tell me he fished Thompson’s on 4” of ice so wondering if maybe I was given the run around so from the first 2. But no fish is worth swimming for so we played it safe went to big island. There must have been at least 200 huts from wagars to the red can was a little to busy for my liking.

I feel like some guys who go on really early ice in areas need to buy a tape measure.

I've been on 2.5/3inches of ice and have had guys in the same spot say they have 5. I think a lot of guys just stick their hands down the hole they drilled and just say "oh man - thats like x amount of inches!"

Hablover,

I agree! I took a measuring tape and a black marker to my spud and marked off the measurements. Did the same to my scoop. No guesstimate

Oh yeah - I'm not talking about guys like you. You and a number of other guys on this board, I trust your reports.

Just pretty much getting to the fact that it's nice to have reports of ice thickness...but still have to proceed with caution if you don't actually know the source.
Not everyone's inches are the same! haha!
