Hello All:

A couple weekends ago my hand auger head went thru the ice. The bolt had come out and I had not noticed in the dark. I live 4 hours away and was going to try to fish one more day if I can get back out where it is to try and get it with a strong magnet.

I typically park by the dead end, where people had been parking on the ice. I understand ice parking will be a no go. But is the ice safe to get out to the channel and try to pull my auger up before it becomes scrap metal and litter? And I understand that there are no guarantees, as ice varies. I just mean in general in that area.

Thanks.

Are you talking about the ruins area? That's where you can see what's left of a large demolished building in the woods? If so use extreme caution and use your spud for each and every step there. Might be wiser just to get a new auger

I agree that it is easier. And cheaper, as I burn about $150 in gas. I am not looking to take any risks which endanger myself or anyone who might have to come for me. I just feel terrible about it being in the water. Mind you, it was already stuck halfway into the mud when it fell through. So it may be covered pretty quickly. Just wanted to do the right thing mainly. Thanks.
