Sheepshead for fun....

Hello gents, I know that Drum or Sheepshead aren't the most popular species and a nuisance at times.... but, I want take my young fella out and have some fun with them, he's dying top get into a "Monster" so I figure a 10 pound Drum should get his heart pumping.... Best spots to go on the Bay? Time of year, water temp an issue? When do the usually start running or show up? What's the most common lure you would use or live bait? I've been out with him a few times between Belleville and Trenton and got a couple Largies for the 4 or five times we've been out, but no sheepshead, accidental walleye or even a pike for that matter. Any info would be greatly appreciated, tx! Cheers!

I luv playing with the sheepshead when I stumble upon them. You can usually tell by the size of them on your finder. In Belleville area Ive found them under the bridge, Rush bar and in the deeper holes. Mind you, this is usually summer time and into fall. Heavier weighted lures in Buckshots, Jiggin raps, Shiver minnows and mr champs have all worked, rip jigging from right on bottom. Not sure how old your young fella is but if he connects he will think he is snagged for a moment when he goes to rip it. Good luck

Deep holes yes I find usually get into them June and July are best months

The Murray canal in a couple weeks will be full of them. You can park by the Carrying Place bridge and fish from shore.

Go walleye fishing anywhere on the bay you will catch them , worm harness or crank baits. Lots of evenings you will catch several to each walleye. They are fun to catch on light tackle and there are some hogs.

The napanee river is loaded up right now. You can get them with a small swimbait hopping bottom. 3 inch with a 1/4 ounce jig head works well.

Been out a couple times at Massassauga point/Point Anne area with the canoe when the wind is down.... lots of Pike, a few Bass.... no Sheepshead as of yet. Still trying!
